Three special promotions for local community service organizations, the popular Emergency Services Appreciation Night, the return of the chicken barbecue and eight of the area’s most popular country and rock bands are some of the highlights of the upcoming 2019 Summer Concert Series at the Claverack Town Park, Church Street, Mellenville. The series takes place Thursday nights (generally) in July and August and is sponsored by the Claverack Republican Club. All the concerts are free of charge and open to the public. Because the first Thursday in July is July 4, the kick-off event for the series will be held Saturday, July 6 at the park, with the super popular band Thunder Ridge taking the stage at 7 p.m. This band has been a regular fixture in the Summer Concert Series for the past eight years and never fails to draw huge crowds from all around. But before the band begins, the Club is offering a chicken barbecue with all the fixin’s beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets for the BBQ are $12 each and are available from club members or by e-mailing [email protected]. Advance sale ticket holders are served first and at-the door ticket buyers follow. Take-outs are available. Getting back on the normal Thursday schedule, the July 11 free concert features Jarrod at 7 p.m. and also includes a special promotion for the Everlasting Hope Animal Rescue. Attendees are asked (but not obligated) to bring cat and dog food, old blankets and towels, kitty litter, paper towels and, of course, monetary donations for this locally-based rescue group saving our forgotten pets. The July 18 free concert features the Greyhounds, a popular Capital District rock and oldies band in their first gig with this concert series. The Oldies Show comes back to town July 25, bringing their retro take on rock oldies and doo-wop. This evening also has a special promotion for the Columbia-Greene Humane Society. Attendees are once again asked (but not obligated) to bring cat and dog food, old blankets and towels, paper towels, cat litter and, of course, monetary donations for this long-time twin-county rescue organization saving our forgotten and neglected pets. A large visual display of the shelter’s activities and services will be part of the presentation. Jarrod returns to the Claverack stage August 1 at 7 p.m. Local favorites South Bound take the stage August 8 at 7 p.m. for the fourth annual Emergency Services Appreciation Night, a special salute to area first responders with free hamburgers, hot dogs and giveaways for fire, EMS and police personnel. An impressive array of fire and police apparatus is expected. The August 15 concert features the 217 Band at 7 p.m. The Fender Bender Band comes to town August 22 for a 7 p.m. concert and special promotion for the Mellenville-Philmont Food Pantry. Attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the food pantry that serves the entire Claverack community. The season closer will be Peaceful Country on August 29 at 7 p.m. The snack bar is open each concert night from 7 to 8:30 offering hamburgers, hot dogs, French Fries, fried dough, drinks and weekly specials, all at reasonable prices. Expenses for the Summer Concert Series are covered in large part by donations from various local sponsoring businesses. The 2019 sponsors are: Gold Sponsor – A. Colarusso And Son; Silver Sponsors – Valley Energy and Pattison, Koskey, Bucci and Howe; and Music Aficionados – Saturn Industries, Johnston Transportation LLC, Brandon’s Auto, CPL Architecture, Engineering and Planning, Meltz Lumber, Friends Of Columbia County Treasurer P.J.
